Fukuyama Medical Center’s Digestive and General Surgery Department consists of 15 staff members. Under the leadership of the hospital director, these medical staff and residents collaborate to handle various gastrointestinal diseases and cases which require treatment in the field of general surgery. Each staff member has a specialized fields, and they are engaged in medical care in field of specialty. These fields are broadly divided into esophagus, stomach, large intestine / small intestine, anus, hepatobiliary pancreas, hernia, and ileus. We perform scheduled surgeries daily, and also respond to emergency cases. We performed over 1000 surgeries in 2013, and the number of surgeries is expected to continue to increase.
We hold weekly early-morning preoperative and postoperative conferences, which include presentations on surgical procedures. We also hold a cancer board discussion with medical staff of the Internal Medicine Department every week, to discuss each case comprehensively and decide upon unbiased treatment policies. These meetings allow us to cooperate closely with other departments, and we make the best of these relationships in our daily medical practice. Moreover, we also conduct a weekly expert conference on gastrointestinal tract surgery and hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, studying each case in depth.
Fukuyama Medical Center is certified by the Japan Surgical Society and the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery, and our hospital has trained and promoted professional development of a large number of specialized doctors and medical advisors.
