The Plastic Surgery Department specializes in reconstructive surgery, and is primarily concerned with functional recovery and improvement of quality of life. Generally, surgical treatments are for the purposes of:
Among these, plastic surgery is primarily concerned with 3) functional recovery and 4) improvement of QOL.
The Plastic Surgery Department treats wounds (including fresh trauma, burns, skin / soft tissue defect after tumor resection, intractable skin ulcers such as pressure ulcers) and performs surgical treatments in order to functionally and cosmetically reconstruct organs from congenital or acquired morphological abnormalities on the surface of the body, restore changes in color tone, and treat skin tumors. These treatments aim to reduce mental stress of our patients and support their social reintegration.
However, our hospital does not handle private cost medical treatments, such as cosmetic surgery.
Plastic surgeons have specialized knowledge and medical treatment skills focusing on areas such as injury, facial fractures, burns, bruises, tumors, congenital abnormalities, skin ulcers, resection of cancer and reconstruction. We conduct medical examination and treatment in these areas, and collaborate with medical specialists in other areas as necessary.
In April 2014, we introduced a pigment laser (Candela Vbeam). Medical insurance coverage has been approved for red birthmarks (simple hemangioma, strawberry hemangioma and telangiectasia), and our department now provides treatment for these conditions. Medical treatment is offered on Monday or Wednesday afternoons by appointment. Usually, treatment can be completed in one day. However, depending on the body part and nature of the condition, hospitalization or general anesthesia may be required.
Since 2013, medical insurance coverage has been approved for mammary prostheses (silicone implants) to reproduce natural shape after breast cancer surgery. At first, it was applied only for ‘round type’ implants, but in 2014, ‘anatomical type’ (droplet-shaped) implants have also been approved for insurance coverage. Our hospital has been certified by the Breast Oncoplastic Surgery Society.
The Pressure Ulcer (Bedsore) Prevention Team consists of plastic surgeons, nurses certified as skin and excretory care specialists, nurses from various wards, nutritionists, pharmacists, and physical therapists. This team provides treatment for pressure ulcers alongside care to prevent the occurrence of pressure ulcers. Every Friday, doctors and certified nurses visit each ward and evaluate the progress of pressure ulcer or wound treatment, continuously reviewing care methods. Furthermore, we examine the risk of pressure ulcers at the time of hospitalization, and provide preventive care for patients who are prone to pressure ulcers due to factors such as disease, medical condition, treatment course, or age. Moreover, the entire team assembles for monthly meetings, sharing information on hospitalized patients suffering from pressure ulcers or wounds, we visit the patients one by one and take advantage of our combined expertise to implement team treatments. Here, the interdisciplinary knowledge of each profession in the team is utilized to relieve pressure ulcers as swiftly as possible.
