Based on guidelines established by the Japan Lung Cancer Society, we propose standard treatment appropriate for the stage of the disease. In order to provide the highest standard of lung cancer care, it is essential that our respiratory oncologists, respiratory surgeons and radiotherapists are well acquainted with the latest evidence and guidelines for lung cancer treatment. However, needless to say, it is most important to consult with each individual patient, and decide treatment policies according to each patient’s unique conditions, taking a flexible approach to each case. For example, even for a stage I non-small cell cancer patient, we may recommend radiotherapy if the patient's respiratory function cannot withstand surgery. On the other hand, for a stage IV cancer, if the patient is suffering from severe symptoms of bone metastases or brain metastasis, radiotherapy is started prior to chemotherapy therapy. In addition, we always respect the patient’s ‘right to choose treatment’, so, we present multiple available options to our patients. Fukuyama Medical Center offers selections of the latest standardized lung cancer treatments in the Fukuyama area.
